Dollars for Scholars®, a program of Scholarship America®, is a national network of more than 1,200 grassroots community-based, volunteer-driven scholarship foundations in cities, towns and neighborhoods throughout the United States. Last year, Dollars for Scholars chapters raised more than $58.3 million, awarded nearly $29 million in scholarships to more than 35,000 students, and invested the remainder primarily in endowment funds for future scholarships

The common element in Dollars for Scholars chapters is community-based fundraising for scholarships awarded to local students. Beyond these scholarships, a growing number of Dollars for Scholars chapters now offer a variety of academic support programs connecting students and parents with resources in the community—from mentoring and tutoring programs to finding financial aid to securing grants and loans.

The program mobilizes and unites local citizens and encourages local students to reach for and achieve their educational goals. Dollars for Scholars communities connect young people with caring and supportive adults; positive connections produce the high expectations and strong motivation that all students need to succeed in school…and in life.
